This is a typical home, similar to the homes we do work for in Rumson and Holmdel New Jersey. Those red spots are where heat is escaping from the home. Notice that the majority of the heat is escaping through the windows!

Any type of window treatment would be helpful for insulation, but the level of insulation will differ. Wood blinds with slats have many gaps and therefore offer limited insulation. Roman shades, Hunter Douglas Vignette, Hunter Douglas Silhouette, and other shadings are better, but still not the best.

Hunter Douglas Duette Architella offer the most insulation. Below is a picture of a window without anything on it. Notice how red the window is as heat is escaping through the window. There are still gaps of insulation and that is where drapery panels come in. We suggest to homeowners to add an additional layer of drapery and a window valence or a cornice to close up the gaps. Note that there is still some heat escaping at the sides and at the top of the window.
