If you’ve just purchased new window fashions for Window Treats here in Middletown or from any other Hunter Douglas dealer, for that matter, you probably want to be sure that you make the most of your investment by keeping your treatments looking their best. Which means some regular maintenance and cleaning. Although many of our customers find it daunting, cleaning window treatments can actually be pretty painless—and it should become part of your weekly routine. Read on to learn some tips on how to approach cleaning your window fashions.
Professional Window Treatment Cleaning
Although there are many instances when it’s perfectly fine to take care of your cleaning yourself, we want to be sure you’re aware of times when it’s important to have a professional take care of it. For example, if you have delicate or fine fabrics for your window treatment, ultrasonic cleaning or injection/extraction cleaning—done only by trained professionals—is probably the best bet. To find a reputable establishment, contact a consultant at Window Treats or call Hunter Douglas directly at 1-888-501-8364.
When It’s OK to Go It Alone
To maintain a good appearance, just do some regular light dusting on most blinds and shades. For a deeper cleaning, vacuum the fabric with a clean brush attachment. You can use compressed air to clean out cellular shades. And you can spot-clean most shades and blinds using a soft cloth or sponge with lukewarm water and perhaps a very mild detergent (be sure not to rub the fabric, which can crease or damage it). Finally, most aluminum and faux wood blinds can be immersed in lukewarm water in your bathtub (but be sure to keep the headrail out of the water, as that can damage the lift mechanism). Close the blind for rinsing, and tilt it to allow excess water to drain off. You should re-install when it’s still damp, and lower it so it can dry completely.
