When you want a dark room, you want a dark room, right? Whether it’s a bedroom, a media room, or a nursery, blocking light might be a necessity. At Window Treats serving Monmouth Beach, we know how important light blocking can be for some people. That’s why we’re happy to tell them about ways to block light from coming in through the sides of a window treatment. Check them out below!
Mount the Treatment Outside the Frame
One way to help keep light out is having a new treatment measured for and mounted on the outside of the window frame. Any treatment mounted inside the frame requires a slight gap on the sides so the treatment doesn’t rub against the sides and cause wear and tear. But mounting the treatment outside of the frame allows you to cover the entirety of the window to block light gaps (although you might still have a bit of a glow). Plus, this look will make your room seem taller, and when you raise the treatment, you’ll have a completely unobstructed view through your window.
Add Side Panels
If your treatment is mounted inside the frame, you can manage the side gaps by adding side panels, which is both easy and room-enhancing. Side panels bring an element of depth and dimension to a room, and they’ll give you a look that’s uniquely yours. Check out our custom drapery accessories for fabric and hardware options that can coordinate with your window treatment and suit almost any décor.
Add a Feature to Block the Gap
If you select Duette® Honeycomb Shades from Hunter Douglas, you can add the LightLock® innovation to help block the side gaps. This feature is a series of U-shaped side channels that fit on the window frame and block, absorb, or reflect almost all of the light that would otherwise escape the gap. If LightLock isn’t for you, however, you can also find light-blocking strips at your local big box store. These strips are L-shaped PVC designed to mount on the window frame and help cut back that extra side light.
