Motorized Window Treatment FAQs

By Window Treats

motorizedBy the year 2022, the global market for blinds and shades is expected to hit $16.7 billion. That’s no surprise, seeing as window treatments are an essential for most homes — and homes are becoming bigger with each passing year. But not all treatments are created equal. These days, many families are opting for motorized blinds and shades for their windows due to their convenience, appearance, and safety benefits. In today’s post, we’ll take a closer look at some of the frequently asked questions we receive about window shade motorization.

What are the benefits of this kind of window treatment?

Although traditional blinds are all well and good, there are several advantages to opting for versions that offer motorization. For one thing, they’re much more efficient and convenient. Instead of shifting each individual window treatment one at a time, these shades and blinds can all be adjusted at once. All it takes is a push of a button to change the feel of an entire room. These treatments are also safer for pets and children than blinds or shades that come with drawstring pulls; this feature can easily become tangled and lead to serious injury. Finally, shades with motorization simply look more impressive, allowing you to really make your home stand out for all the right reasons.

How are these treatments controlled?

It depends on your setup and the specific product in question, but there are typically a few different ways to control the movement of your automated window blinds and shades. You can have a wall switch installed, use a handheld remote, or (in some cases) actually use your phone to make the changes you desire. Assuming you have a home automation system, you may be able to use other gadgets, like a tablet or voice command electronics, to do this.

Is the motor quite loud?

Many people are hesitant to switch to these window treatments because of possible noise concerns. While it’s easy to understand why, the reality is that technological advancements have allowed these shades to adjust in a very discrete way. The motor can barely be heard during adjustment and will not be jarring or a distraction in any way. You may not even realize the adjustments are happening.

Do these shades come only in specific styles?

One of the great things about shades that use motorization is that they can be made to suit your preferences. They can essentially be designed in any pattern or fabric you see fit. They can even be created in different styles to fit the style of a given room or home.

Where can I install these window treatments?

Motorized window shades are perfectly suited for virtually any room in your home. They’re ideal for bedrooms, kids’ rooms, offices, living rooms, dining rooms, and even bathrooms and basements. In certain cases, they can even be used out on a porch or deck. Essentially, you can place motorized window treatments anywhere you need to control light coming from windows in and around your home.
